Richard Finkelstein, the show’s designer, specified six drops and two other set element constructions for this show. There was one show curtain, two cutouts around the proscenium, a die backdrop of the skyline and two cutouts of sewer pipes. The fly system and its crew got a real workout during Guys and Dolls. The Save-a-Soul Mission’s interior was our only formal “room”, and the news stand our primary standalone piece. This was the first time I had worked on a backdrop this complex; especially the die for the skyline drop.

The key to getting all of this done in three weeks was to have the crew spread out, and work on different parts of the drop, all at the same time. Along with other work, my most prominent work on the drops were the two lamp posts. It was a lot of work with shading and highlighting. It was great practice for future paintings.
